Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about renting with Moto Rent Ioannina. Cannot find what you are looking for? Contact us at any time.
General
What do I need to rent a scooter?
You need a valid driving licence that permits you to ride a 125cc scooter. For EU citizens, a category A1 or B licence may be accepted, depending on the rules of the issuing country. Visitors from outside the EU should carry an International Driving Permit together with their national licence. You must also be at least 18 years old and present a valid identity card or passport at pickup.
Do I need an International Driving Permit?
If your licence was issued within the EU or EEA, no additional document is required; your national licence is sufficient. Visitors from outside the EU must carry an International Driving Permit (IDP), accompanied by a Greek or English translation, together with their original licence. We recommend checking the requirements with the relevant authority before travelling.
What are your opening hours?
We are open daily from 08:00 to 20:00 during the main season, from April to October. Availability may vary outside the main season; contact us to arrange a pickup or return outside standard hours. Where possible, we can also accommodate early-morning or evening pickups.
Where are you located?
Our base is in central Ioannina, close to the old town and Lake Pamvotida. Detailed directions and a map are available on the Contact page. We can also arrange delivery to your hotel or the intercity bus station for a small fee; let us know when booking.
Bookings & Payments
How do I book a scooter?
Book your scooter through our online form: select your dates and an available scooter, then enter your details. Excursions and routes are provided for information and are not added as a separate product to your booking. For assistance, use the contact form or email info@rent-moto.gr.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash in euros at pickup, credit and debit cards (Visa and Mastercard), and bank transfers for deposits. A small deposit may be required to secure your booking; the remaining balance is paid at pickup.
How do I cancel my booking?
If you cancel more than 48 hours before the scheduled pickup, your deposit will be refunded in full. Cancellations within 48 hours may incur a small cancellation fee. If you would prefer to change your dates instead of cancelling, we will do everything possible to accommodate you without an additional charge; contact us as early as possible.
Can I extend my rental?
Of course. If you would like to keep the scooter longer, let us know a few hours before the original return time. Extensions are subject to availability and charged at the standard daily rate. We will confirm the extension and update your booking immediately.
Scooters
Are helmets included?
Yes. Every rental includes two helmets at no extra cost: one for the rider and one for the passenger. We offer different sizes for a comfortable fit. Helmets are sanitised after every rental. Greek law requires both the rider and passenger to wear a helmet.
Which scooter models are available?
Our fleet consists of five Piaggio Liberty 125cc scooters: reliable, economical and easy to ride, with automatic transmission. Every scooter includes a top box and phone holder, with enough power for mountain roads and longer trips across Epirus.
What is included with every rental?
Every rental includes the scooter, two helmets, a top box, phone holder, basic insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance and a detailed map with recommended routes around Ioannina and Epirus. Fuel is not included; you receive the scooter with a full tank and return it with a full tank.
How much fuel does the scooter use?
The Piaggio Liberty 125cc is very economical, averaging approximately 2.5–3 litres per 100 km. A full tank usually covers 150–200 km, depending on the terrain and riding style, which is enough for a day trip to the Zagori villages and back. Fuel stations are readily available along all main routes.
Excursions & Routes
Can I ride outside Ioannina?
Yes, of course. Our scooters are ideal for exploring the wider Epirus region. Popular destinations include Metsovo, the Zagori villages, Konitsa and Vikos Gorge. We provide printed and digital maps with recommended stops, riding advice and estimated journey times so you can plan your route with confidence.
Can I follow one of your recommended routes?
Yes. Our four recommended routes provide general information about distance, duration and difficulty. They are not a separate booking or an organised excursion. Contact us before setting off for information about suitability and current conditions.
Are the routes suitable for beginners?
Each route has a difficulty rating. The Lake Ioannina Ride is easy and flat, making it ideal for a first experience. The Metsovo Escape and Zagori Villages Adventure are moderately challenging, with mountain roads and bends. The Vikos Gorge Route is demanding and better suited to more experienced riders. We will be happy to recommend the route that best matches your experience.
Do you offer guided tours?
The published excursions are self-guided route ideas, not organised guided tours. Contact us before your ride for information about duration, difficulty and suitability.
Insurance
Is insurance included in the price?
Yes. Basic third-party liability insurance is included with every rental at no extra cost. It covers damage to third parties in the event of an accident. The rider is responsible for damage to the rented scooter, so we recommend riding carefully and following the Greek Highway Code.
Can I add extra cover?
We offer optional excess-reduction cover that limits your liability in the event of accidental damage to the scooter. Details and prices are shown during the booking process. We also recommend checking your travel insurance, as many policies cover scooter rentals.
What should I do if I have an accident?
In the event of an accident, first make sure everyone is safe and call the emergency services on 112 if necessary. Contact our 24/7 support line immediately and we will guide you through the next steps. Do not attempt to repair the scooter yourself. A police report may be required for the insurance process; we will help you at every stage.
During Your Ride
Is roadside assistance included?
Yes. Every rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance throughout the Epirus region. If you experience a mechanical issue, flat tyre or any problem on the road, call our support line and we will send assistance as quickly as possible. In most cases, we can reach you within 30–60 minutes, depending on your location.
What happens in bad weather?
Safety comes first. If severe weather is forecast for your rental day, we offer a flexible date change at no charge. If it starts raining during your ride, stop somewhere safe and wait; weather in the Greek mountains can change quickly. In prolonged bad weather, contact us to discuss an alternative or a full refund if riding is not possible.
Can I carry a passenger?
Yes. The Piaggio Liberty 125cc is designed for two people, and a second helmet is included with every rental. Both the rider and passenger must always wear a helmet. Carrying a passenger adds weight and affects acceleration and braking, so adjust your riding accordingly, especially on mountain roads.
Are there areas I should avoid?
We recommend staying on paved roads. Some remote mountain roads in Zagori are unpaved and unsuitable for a 125cc scooter. Our maps clearly identify paved and unpaved sections. If you are unsure about a particular road, call us and we will advise you straight away.
Return
Where do I return the scooter?
Return the scooter to our base in central Ioannina, at the same place where you collected it. If hotel delivery was arranged, we can collect the scooter from there at the agreed time. Please return the scooter at the scheduled time to avoid late fees.
Do I need to return the scooter with a full tank?
Yes. We operate a full-to-full fuel policy: you receive the scooter with a full tank and return it full. Fuel stations are easy to find in and around Ioannina. If the tank is not full on return, a small refuelling charge applies.
What happens if I return the scooter late?
We understand that plans can change. A 30-minute grace period is included. After that, delays of up to three hours incur a charge equal to half the daily rate. Returns more than three hours late are charged as an additional day. If you know you will be late, call us; we will always try to find a fair solution.
